Black Friday: Slovakia

EDU4U in Slovakia carried out a short public survey during their Black Friday awareness action to better understand how people relate to Black Friday shopping and sustainable fashion. The survey was conducted over two days and gathered responses from 103 participants.

The results showed that Black Friday shopping is still very common, with most respondents saying they shop every year or from time to time, mainly because of discounted prices. Fashion trends and real necessity were also mentioned as reasons for purchasing, but much less frequently. At the same time, the survey revealed that environmental impact is not a key factor in most purchasing decisions, as more than half of respondents said they rarely or never consider sustainability when buying clothes.

Despite this, openness to more sustainable alternatives was high. Most respondents said they would be willing to buy second-hand clothing, and many believed that individual consumer choices can influence the fashion market. When asked what should change in the fashion industry, people most often pointed to the need for more sustainable materials and less waste.

Overall, the survey showed a clear gap between current shopping behaviour and growing awareness of sustainability. The findings helped EDU4U better understand local attitudes toward consumption and supported their Black Friday action by providing concrete data for discussions on mindful shopping and sustainable fashion.
